MMORPG

Massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) is a genre of role-playing online games in which a very large number of players interact with one another in a virtual game world.

RPG

Role-playing games are the most commonly played games today. Players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. They take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting or through a process of structured decision-making or character development. Actions taken within many games succeed or fail according to a formal system of rules and guidelines. Role-playing games are vary from game to game and can played on handhelds, consoles, and PCs.

FPS/TPS

A first person shooter (FPS) is a genre in which the player sees the action on the screen as if he or she were looking through the eyes of the main character he or she is playing. As expected, the shooter section of the term indicates that the majority of game play in these games will require the use of rifle or pistol type weaponry. While first person shooters are popular across multiple platforms, there are variations. One example is the tactical first person shooter, where the game play is less run and gun and more strategy based via the shooter element.

A third person shooter (TPS) differs only in viewpoint; instead of seeing out of the eyes of their player, they see from behind their characters shoulder.

Warning: Most shooter games are rated M for mature. These games are likely not appropriate for teenagers. This is especially true in an online environment. Online the player has little control over other players, so the experience may vary drastically.
